What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments & Media

We can’t collect comments from you here on this site because of the strong reactions from folks who disagree so vehemently with #NormalContact that it melts their sense of civility. It’s sad, but true. For the same reason we can’t actually let you log in or share media (like avatars, etc.) Sorry. Wish we could.

Contact forms

At some point in the future if we have any contact forms it would probably only be for letting you opt-in to a mailing list. Right now, however, we don’t even know what we would do with that.

Cookies

Yes, we might use a cookie to help track returning visitors. No, that information will never be shared with anyone, ever. We do not use any analytics that aren’t hosted exclusively on our own site. For our own volunteers’ privacy we want anonymity, and we don’t feel any need to give you any less privacy. (We’re big fans of the Golden Rule.)

We use our analytics mostly just to know which content is most interesting to visitors. Oh, and because we’re a little curious how many people stop by. (And frankly, it’s blowing our minds that you’re reading this.)

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

We don’t. To be fair, this mostly has to do with not wanting to rely on a company like Google (the most popular analytics by far) who would be opposed to what we’re doing with #NormalContact. So all of our analytics are done locally.

How long we retain your data

We might keep visitor logs indefinitely, but there shouldn’t be any personally identifiable information.

What rights you have over your data

If you needed us to erase information specifically related to you for some reason we probably couldn’t find a way to identify you in the logs. Seriously, we don’t care about any of that.

Where we send your data

We will never, ever, ever share any info on purpose without a court order. And we have no intention of collecting personally identifiable information.
